Installation & Operation Specifications of Mechanical Seals

The following clauses are critical and must be strictly followed for the proper installation and operation of mechanical seals:

1. All sharp edges on the shaft sleeve shall be chamfered before seal assembly.

2. A 2.5×15° transitional chamfer shall be processed on the shaft for mechanical seal installation, and all sharp portions shall be fully rounded off.

3. All surfaces of the shaft sleeve at the seal installation position shall be polished to Ra 0.3–0.8 μm.

4. For mechanical seals fitted with stop plates (integrated blocks), pull out or remove the stop plates before test run.

5. Lubricate the shaft sleeve and O-rings with soapy water, silicone oil, ethylene glycol or glycerol to facilitate assembly.

6. EPDM rubber shall not contact mineral oil, otherwise volumetric swelling will occur.

7. After seal replacement, the shaft axis shall be perpendicular to the seal end face (90°), and the runout shall be within ±0.025 mm.
