Core Functions of the Hand Pump in API 682 Plan 53B Seal Support System

The core function of the hand pump in the API 682 Plan 53B seal support system is to serve as an emergency and pressure-maintaining backup pressurization device. It ensures that when system pressure drops, repressurization can be performed without an unplanned shutdown, thereby maintaining seal reliability.

Specifically, its main functions are reflected in the following two scenarios:

1. System Initial Fill and Maintenance

Filling and Venting: Before initial startup or after maintenance, the hand pump is used to inject barrier fluid into the system and vent air from the piping, ensuring that the system is completely filled with liquid medium.

2. Emergency Repressurization During Operation

Repressurization Without Shutdown: When minor leakage of the barrier fluid across the seal faces causes the system pressure to drop to an alarm level, the hand pump can be operated to restore the pressure to the normal working range.
